J. J. Finley Elementary School has been renamed "Carolyn Beatrice Parker Elementary School."

On June 3, 2020 nine Alachua County high school seniors, all Finley alumni and 2020 graduates, requested the name change in a letter to the school board.

The Alachua County School Board voted unanimously to rename the school after Carolyn Beatrice Parker, who worked as a physicist on the Manhattan Project. The committee endorsed Parker citing the adversity she faced during the Jim Crow era and her efforts against Nazism during World War II.
